Sustainability & Social Responsibility

Sustainability is embedded into the culture at Altecnic. From designing quality products that last, to the production methods we use, our commitment to recyclable packaging, and in the way we power our vehicles. Our social responsibility is demonstrated in our work with local charities to support the communities in which we live and work.

Environmental Responsibility

Altecnic is an environmentally responsible business, Investors in People accredited and proud to be ISO14001 certified.ย

We’re reducing our environmental impact through innovative product design and packaging. In 2020 we reviewed the materials used in our transit and product packaging. Since the review, over 70% of the Altecnic transit and product packaging we use are now made from recycled or recyclable materials. We have also reduced the number of single-use plastics used in our warehouse, assembly, and packing lines.

Our Italian partner, Caleffi, recycle 100% of the packaging waste which has reduced CO2 emissions as well as improving efficiency in their warehouse.

At Altecnic, we also consciously monitor and look to reduce the amount of energy we use. To this end, in early 2021, Altecnic took delivery of a fleet of electric forklift trucks to replace older gas-powered trucks. The move means no fossil fuels and saving ofย  2.8 tCO2e per annum.ย

Francesco Housey

Our headquarters at Francesco House further demonstrates our commitment to sustainability. The building is BREEAM A rated and features a 94 kWp solar PV array, supported by battery storage to maximise on-site renewable energy use. To minimise waste, office materials from our previous location were upcycled and reused in the new building fit-out. The site also includes 16 electric vehicle charging points, supporting the transition to low-emission transport, and three beehives, contributing to local biodiversity.

Social Responsibility & Community Focus

At Altecnic, we take our role as a responsible employer seriously. That’s why we’re proud to team up with local charities that provide essential support within our local communities.

Dougie Mac

For a number of years we have supported the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, aka “Dougie Mac”. Dougie Mac provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,500 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages, also offering supportive care to their families and carers. Through fundraising and as the main sponsor of their annual golf day, we’re delighted to have received the Bronze supporter award again in 2021.ย

The Donna Louise

The Donna Louise charity provides care and support services for children and young adults with shortened life expectancy or those who have a life-threatening or life-limiting condition. It supports every member of a childโ€™s family from initial diagnosis until a point when their help is no longer required.ย

It is our pleasure to support the essential work of the Donna Louise through fundraising events, donating professional services, and plumbing & heating products.

Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank

With the help of our employees, we are proud to support the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank and hope our activities encourage other local businesses to do the same.ย

In December 2020, following a year devastated by the ongoing economic and social impact of Covid-19, Altecnic approached Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank to ask how we could support.

In response to stark statistics, including a predicted 30% increase in Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank winter usage year on year, Altecnic pledged to support 150 local families by donating the money to cover โ€˜Turkey and trimmingsโ€™ food vouchers as well as providing food donations made by Altecnic employees.
